We are seeking a solid GIS Specialist to join our Sheridan, Wyoming GIS team to provide dedicated support for some large long-term projects incorporating both cultural and natural resource studies.

  • Utilization of ArcGIS Online and/or Enterprise Portal, and fluency with ArcGIS Pro
  • Data management and organization best practices, especially within a multiuser geodatabase environment
  • Cartographic aptitude, efficiency, accuracy

What you will accomplish

Use ArcGIS Pro to edit and analyze data, design layouts, publish and manage hosted services, create/maintain geoprocessing models, organize and manage data

Utilize ArcGIS Online or Enterprise Portal to author/manage hosted services, web maps, and map applications

Author presentation-quality cartographic products including report figures, map deliverables, web-based maps, and presentation graphics

Perform sophisticated spatial and computational analytics

Design, maintain, and QA/QC data, work products, workflows

Provide technical and analytical guidance and GIS solutions to project staff

Support field data collection efforts with management of data, workflows, and equipment using ArcGIS Mobile apps (primarily Survey123 and Collector). Help field staff prepare for field survey and provide active technical support during data collection and post-processing.

Ensure quality of work is consistent with industry standards and best practices through diligent documentation and QA/QC

Maintain a collaborative partnership with GIS team members, project managers, and fellow SWCA scientists

Experience and qualifications for success

Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Cartography, Archaeology, Biology, Environmental Science or related field with an emphasis in GIS (or GIS certificate); Master’s degree a plus

A minimum of four (4) years of professional work beyond degree

Ability to quickly gain focused familiarity with, and working understanding of, general natural/cultural resource and project concepts and terms/acronyms used in project work

Strong foundational understanding of spatial principles and core GIS competencies, working with complex data sets, and applying creative solutions to challenges

Demonstrated knowledge of cartography and computer mapping, including design principles and map creation in ArcGIS

Ability to produce methods documentation for reports and metadata, and to replicate GIS-related analyses or modeling techniques utilized for projects

Capability for practical application of basic statistics, and geometric math computations (e.g., summary, distributions, frequency, min/max, range, angles, distance, slope, degrees, area)

Demonstrated experience with GPS/GNSS equipment, field data collection, data integration, and troubleshooting for equipment and digital files

Prior work in natural or cultural resources management, remote sensing, and/or water resources, and prior experience working with federal land agencies such as the USFS, NPS, BLM, BOR, USGS, or other, is very desirable

Prior knowledge and experience with multi-user geodatabases, domains and schema design, network analysis, and/or database administration is advantageous for this role

Working knowledge of Python, Arcade, or JavaScript is highly desired but not required
