TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: 10% Overnight travel required within the U. S.

The Software Engineering team operates in a tight-knit, collaborative environment. IT, Systems Development, Product Management, Customer Care, Marketing & Direct Sales all work closely together to align on creating value through health and wellness products and services. The Manager of Software Engineering will drive the development of our flagship mobile personal emergency response device ensuring timely, high quality delivery. This role will be the technical authority for the engineering team guiding and synthesizing many view-points into a coherent architecture and development plan. In addition, the Engineering Manager will inspire and mentor their team members as well as managing performance and employee relations issues. This role is a unique combination of technical subject matter expertise, leadership, and technical delivery that is critical to the strategic growth of the organization.


-Lead the agile planning, measurement and delivery for a product team.

-Implement governance processes into the SDLC (code reviews, security, standards and coverage) to deliver quality software repeatably.

-Report on delivery metrics to ensure visibility and transparency amongst teams.

-Build and lead a high-performance team of software engineers.

-Recruit and retain technical talent.

-Provide mentorship and coaching to the engineering team.

-Mitigate employee relations issues partnering with Human Resources when appropriate.

-Inspire the engineering team by demonstrating our culture. Lead by doing.

-Maintain knowledge and seek to understand current trends in technology.

-Improve system and software delivery through automation and tooling to maximize team productivity.

-Provide estimates and assist in dependency analysis to support cross-team big room planning.

-Assist in technology evaluations and prototyping as needed.

-Other duties as assigned.


EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience


5+ Years of software development of embedded systems or other constrained runtime environments.

2+ Years leading engineering teams with a proven track record of success.

2+ Years leading development of a life safety or mission critical systems.


-Excellent design and systems thinking capability. -Excellent Knowledge of the new technology trends and their application in the market. -Excellent Knowledge of Software Engineering Discipline, including hands-on, expert knowledge of C/C++ (11/14). -Excellent Knowledge of algorithms, data structures and OO design patterns. -Excellent Knowledge of software testing strategy -Excellent Knowledge of wireless networking and hardware design. -Strong People Management skills. -Strong technical understanding of the Unix OS. -Strong technical understanding of embedded systems and IoT. -Proven experience assessing business requirements. -Strong leadership skills, ability to perform under the pressure and deliver complex technical solutions. -Superior communication skills with ability to relate with both technical and business professionals. -Full knowledge of and adherence to Software Development Life Cycle best practices. -In depth knowledge of Agile Project Development Methodologies. -In depth knowledge of Lean Startup principles. -In depth knowledge of Continuous Delivery and DevOps.
