Job Description

The Institute is hiring a science communications consultant to write and edit our scientific and policy materials We are looking for a talented and committed individual with superb writing skills and a technical background to play a key role in our work for more responsible use of chemicals.

The Institute has created theSix Classes approachto reduce the use of families of toxic chemicals found in everyday products. This visionary program brings together decision-makers from business, academia, government, and nonprofits to develop and implement innovative strategies to reduce exposures to these chemicals worldwide. By educating purchasers, producers and consumers about these classes of harmful chemicals, this approach can help shift markets towards healthier products and materials. For more information, visit:

Responsibilities:

The Communications Consultant will write and edit Institute materials, including:

– Drafting content for newsletters, op-eds,blog posts, press releases

– Edit reports, fact sheets, scholarly manuscripts, and other Institute publications and presentations

– Communicate with the media and respond to press inquiries

– Maintain and expand the institute’s media contact list

– Manage our social media presence

– Make occasional updates to the institute’s website,

– Monitor relevant media for emerging topics and opportunities,

– Edit grant proposals and progress reports

– Write and speak with eloquence about our work for healthier products.

Position Expectations and Qualifications

– A degree in chemistry, biology, environmental engineering, public health, public policy, toxicology, environmental science, law, architecture or a related field

– Three or more years’ science communications experience

– Passion about our mission to protect health and environment worldwide

– Superb written and verbal communications skills

– Ability to think creatively, exercise good judgment, and take the initiative to solve problems

– Attention to detail, persistence, and flexibility

– Ability to work both independently and within a team environment

– Ability to research and synthesize information on scientific and policy topics

– Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

– Experience in a university or non-profit press office a plus.
